The shipping and logistics group appointed its former regional finance chief to lead operations across 22 markets, with a focus on supply chains, growth and integrated logistics
DP World has appointed Jason Varsamidis as chief executive officer and managing director of its Asia Pacific region, effective immediately, the company said.
Varsamidis will oversee the group’s ports, terminals and logistics businesses across 22 markets in the region, which employs more than 12,000 people.
He brings nearly three decades of experience with DP World and its predecessor, P&O Ports, which he joined in 1997. He most recently served as chief financial officer of DP World Asia Pacific from 2020, helping shape regional strategy, investment decisions and business performance.
Before that, he spent seven years as chief financial officer of DP World Australia. His experience also includes mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure projects and business turnaround programmes, the company said.
In his new role, Varsamidis will focus on regional strategy and operational performance, strengthening end-to-end supply chains and expanding the group’s integrated logistics capabilities.
“Jason is a highly respected leader with a deep understanding of our business and the markets in which we operate,” DP World Group Chief Executive Yuvraj Narayan said.
His appointment would provide continuity while keeping the business focused on its strategic priorities, customers and employees, Narayan said.
Varsamidis said he would work with regional leaders and employees to maintain business momentum and deliver for customers and partners.
“I’m honoured to lead DP World in Asia Pacific,” he said, citing opportunities across the region and the strength of the company’s workforce.
DP World said it would announce arrangements for the regional chief financial officer position separately.
