The new Seahorse service links Jakarta with China’s Shekou and Thailand’s Laem Chabang, aiming to improve regional trade connectivity, logistics efficiency and industrial supply chains
Indonesia’s IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) has welcomed Mediterranean Shipping Company’s (MSC) new Seahorse shipping service, which connects Jakarta with ports in China and Thailand, as the country seeks to strengthen regional trade links and improve logistics efficiency.
The service calls at Terminal 3 of Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta, linking the Indonesian capital with Shekou in China and Laem Chabang in Thailand.
The inaugural voyage was marked by the arrival of the MSC Elizabeth III, a Liberia-flagged vessel measuring 210 metres (689 feet) in length and 30 metres in beam. The ship docked on October 12 at 8 p.m. local time and handled 483 container boxes before departing the following day at 9:30 a.m.
Yanuar Evyanto, acting commercial and business development director of IPC TPK, said the new service reflected the terminal operator’s efforts to meet international market demand and improve Indonesia’s logistics competitiveness.
The route is expected to support cargo flows between the three countries, including the movement of raw materials and finished goods used by regional industries.
China is a major market for Indonesian energy commodities, while Thailand is an important agricultural producer in Southeast Asia. Stronger shipping links between the countries could help facilitate trade in energy, food and industrial goods.
IPC TPK said the service would support regional economic cooperation and the integration of Indonesia’s industrial supply chains into global markets.
The launch comes as Indonesia seeks to improve logistics connectivity and strengthen domestic industrial capacity, with efficient port operations playing a key role in the movement of goods across international markets.
