SPTP Increases Container Services to Become a Priority

The largest container terminal operator in Indonesia, Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Sub-holding (SPTP), is intensively transforming all of the company’s work areas.

SPTP does this to improve services to shipping companies and their main customers. The company’s priority is service standards in the container terminal area to provide optimal and efficient services.

SPTP Corporate Secretary Widyaswendra said the transformation carried out by the company reached 27 container terminals under the company’s management.

The container terminal in eastern Indonesia is not spared from this transformation process. The main concern of container terminals in the East region is TPK Sorong and TPK Jayapura.

“All container terminals will have the same service standards according to their respective classes. This will facilitate control and monitoring for both us as operators and shipping companies as users of our services,” said Widyaswendra.

One of SPTP’s efforts to provide the same standard of service is to meet the minimum requirements for facilities and equipment at the container terminal.

For acceleration, the company moved a number of containers loading and unloading equipment from one terminal to another.

Such as the transfer of 1 unit quay container crane (QCC), a container loading and unloading tool at the dock from the Port of Ternate to TPK Kaltim Kariangau Terminal, and two units of QCC from Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) to TPK MNP.

The transfer of other equipment, namely two units of Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG), a container loading and unloading tool in the stacking yard from TPK MNP to TPK Kaltim Kariangau Terminal.

“In addition to the fulfillment of equipment, we also standardize the existing system in the terminal so that all terminals will later be integrated with the same system,” he continued.

General Manager of Operations of PT Temas Shipping Iwan Hernawan said service standardization at container terminals was the main thing awaited by many shipping companies.

He said that the management of the container terminal prior to the merger had different service standards in each terminal.

The management of all container terminals by SPTP is expected to realize the expectations of shipping companies through the same service standards in all container terminals.

“Container terminals in the western, central, and eastern regions should have the same service standards in terms of equipment, loading and unloading speed, tariffs, and customer service,” explained Iwan.

Service users have utilized the container terminal transformation by SPTP at TPK Belawan, North Sumatra.

General Manager of PT Tanto Intim Line Bustanul Arifin Siregar said loading and unloading performance at Belawan TPK has increased to an average of 45 BSH (unloading containers on one ship in 1 hour).

He said that in 1 month, the shipping company PT Tanto Intim Line has 11 ship arrival schedules with an average loading and unloading of 1,300-1,600 TEUs.

“With the increase in loading and unloading performance, the ship’s docking time (port stay) becomes faster to depart to go to the next port immediately. We hope this performance can be maintained and improved,” Arifin concluded.
