Samudera Indonesia Enjoyed 319% Profit Increase until May

Public listed shipping company Samudera Indonesia Tbk (SMDR) recorded revenue as of May 2022 of USD 440.8 million, equivalent to IDR 6.56 trillion, or an increase of 95% over the same period in the previous year. Operating profit rose 303% to USD 148.2 million, and net profit increased 319% to USD 94.8 million.

President Director of Samudera Indonesia, Bani Maulana Mulia, said the earnings for the first five months exceeded the entire year’s revenue in 2021.

“We are grateful that in 2021 the company will make history by achieving its best performance, and even more grateful that in the first five months of 2022, these results have been exceeded,” said Bani.

SMDR has realized a CAPEX budget of USD 43 million throughout 2022. Among these, it has operated an additional unit of a chemical tanker with a weight of 20,000 DWT to serve international routes. One unit of a similar chemical tanker is also being purchased and will be received in the next few months.

“In 2022, we have received and operated one tanker with an international flag. It runs very well, serving international routes for export requests to Thailand, Japan, and South Korea. Even serving European shipping requests,” said Bani.

Meanwhile, the process of building a new container ship in Japan is also running according to schedule and plan. At the end of 2022, two new container ships will be handed over and operated. This container ship is planned to serve Semarang and Thailand routes.

SMDR has also completed the buyback of GAC Group’s shares in the joint logistics business unit between Samudera and GAC. This business unit focuses on developing the logistics service market for FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) in Indonesia.

At the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders today, the distribution of dividends of IDR 50 per share or a total of IDR 163.7 billion has been approved. This dividend is the highest amount ever distributed in the history of SMDR.
