State-owned port operator discusses integrated shipping network with carriers, aiming to improve supply chain efficiency, reduce logistics costs and strengthen national port connectivity
State-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), or Pelindo, met with domestic and international shipping companies to discuss plans for an integrated national logistics network aimed at improving supply chain efficiency and strengthening Indonesia’s port connectivity.
The discussions took place during a “Strategic Business Discussion” forum held at Pelindo Regional 4’s office in Makassar on Tuesday, bringing together company executives and representatives from major shipping lines, including PT Salam Pacific Indonesia Lines (SPIL), PT Tanto Intim Line, PT Meratus Line and SITC.
Commercial Director Farid Padang said Pelindo’s Indonesia Network Pendulum (PINP) initiative is intended to create a more integrated logistics ecosystem through closer coordination with shipping companies and other industry participants.
“Through forums like this, we want to ensure that every policy and program implemented by Pelindo is developed in collaboration with our service users,” Farid said. “Collaboration is key to creating a more reliable logistics network, increasing shipping schedule certainty and reducing national logistics costs.”
Pelindo said the PINP program is scheduled to be implemented this year and is designed to reduce cargo imbalances by integrating shipping networks, consolidating cargo, improving schedule reliability and providing incentives for shipping companies that increase vessel load factors.
Farid said the company was conducting roadshows and consultations with shipping companies and cargo owners in several regions, adding that broad industry participation would be important to the program’s implementation.
Pelindo Regional 4 Executive Director Abdul Azis said eastern Indonesia would play a strategic role in the initiative because of its position within the country’s logistics network.
“Pelindo Regional 4 is ready to be a strategic partner for all service users in implementing the company’s transformation initiatives,” Abdul Azis said, adding that feedback from shipping companies would help refine the program.
Ngurah Gede Santha Dharma, Makassar branch manager of PT Meratus Line, welcomed the discussions, saying they provided an opportunity for shipping companies to better understand Pelindo’s transformation plans and offer industry input.
“Forums like this are very positive because they provide an opportunity for business actors to directly provide input and understand the direction of Pelindo’s ongoing transformation,” he said.
Pelindo said it expects closer collaboration with shipping companies to support the rollout of its port transformation program, improve connectivity between ports and strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s logistics sector.
