The terminal handles 122,876 TEUs in September, with exports accounting for 51% of international traffic and vessel productivity exceeding the transport ministry’s minimum standard
PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) handled 122,876 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers in September 2026, including 120,725 TEUs of international traffic, as exports continued to account for the majority of international container flows.
Exports totalled 61,267 TEUs, or about 51% of international throughput, while imports reached 59,458 TEUs, representing around 49%, the terminal operator said.
TPS maintained average Box Ship Hour (BSH) productivity of 51 boxes per ship per hour on international services, exceeding the minimum standard of 48 boxes per ship per hour set by the Transportation Ministry through the Tanjung Perak Main Harbormaster and Port Authority (KSOP).
The terminal recorded 87 international vessel calls during the month. International yard occupancy ratios stood at 36.48% for exports and 39.29% for imports, both below 40%, indicating available yard capacity to support container handling operations.
TPS said it continued to optimize the use of electric-powered equipment, including electric quay container cranes (E-QCCs) and electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes (E-RTGs), to improve productivity and support more environmentally friendly operations.
Ali Sodikin, TPS’s president director, said the September results reflected the terminal’s ability to maintain reliable and efficient services amid changing global trade conditions.
“The maintained container flow in September 2026 shows TPS’s ability to provide reliable, efficient and sustainable operational services,” Sodikin said.
He added that the company would continue to improve service quality and operational productivity while strengthening its role as a logistics gateway in eastern Indonesia.
