Priok Enjoyed 8.78% Container Throughput Growth in 2021

Indonesia’s leading port, Tanjung Priok, enjoyed 8.78% throughput growth last year (2021). The port handled 6,750.302 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), totaling domestic and oceangoing, increasing from 6,205,301 TEUs in 2020.

The non-containerized cargo also experienced an increase, by 11.47%, from 19,655,385 tons in 2020 to 21,908,999 tons (2021).

General Manager Pelindo Regional 2 Tanjung Priok Silo Santoso explained the throughput almost reached the pre-pandemic level of 6.8 million TEUs.

The Jakarta International Container Terminal contributed the highest among the terminals, reaching 2,037,485 TEUs.

“The 2021 throughput was higher than of 2020. We are optimistic, this year (2022) will be higher,” Silo said on the sideline of Public Expose on Priok Performance 2021 and Outlook 2022 on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

“Moreover, many shipping lines have done space booking at almost all Priok Terminals until June,” Silo said further.

Like cargo volume, ship calls also experienced an increase during the year, reaching 12,457 units, increasing 4.89% from 11,876 units in 2020. “The oceangoing ship calls contributed 72%, while domestic 28%,” Silo said.
