JICT Inaugurates the Initial Operation of Two New QCCs

Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) inaugurated the initial operation of two Quay Container Cranes (QCC) this morning, Wednesday, June 22, 2022, proving the commitment of this Indonesia’s leading oceangoing terminal to increase the productivity and do innovation toward the digital port.

These QCCs worth $15 million in total that is produced by Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer SANY will replace the old QCCs that have been relocated to other Pelindo terminals in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

The two QCCs have actually been arriving at JICT since a month ago. According to Sunarno, Director of Tresna Muda Sejati (TMS), a shipping line that handled the shipment of the two QCCs from China to JICT, it needed 10-days to sail the QCCs.

This twin lift post-Panamax QCCs are the most modern container crane in the country and are expected to fasten the loading-unloading process at the terminal.

In her remark speech for the inauguration CEO Hutchison Ports Indonesia (HPI) Rianti Ang said: “After building partnership with Pelindo in JICT for 23 years, Hutchison continues to realize its commitment to increase productivity through equipment modernization and human resources improvement.”

“These two new QCCs are a part of our commitment to do innovation. But, we are not only investing in equipment but also human resources to build competitiveness,” Rianti said.

She invites customers, including the shipping lines to optimize these facilities and asks them to always support JICT. “We hope you continue to support us,” Rianti calls all shipping lines and cargo owners to grow together. “Let us grow up together,” she said.”

Echoing it, JICT President Director Ade Hartono explained that these QCCs are the most modern in Tanjung Priok, able to handle 24 rows.

Ade sends appreciation to all customers for trusting JICT to handle their containers and cargo for 23 years. With these new QCCs, JICT now has eight QCCs in total, six of which are Post Panamax QCCs.

Ade also explained that JICT will continue to improve infrastructure and supra-structures in a bid to increase productivity. “We will soon deepen the basin of the West Quay from existing -14m to -16m LWs. Hopefully, this will attract bigger vessels to come.”

JICT also continues to upgrade its system. “After pioneering the adoption of STID (single truck identity data), we will soon launch TBS (terminal booking system). Hopefully, this will help to overcome the problem of congestion at Tanjung Priok and create efficiency and cargo receiving and delivery.

Fasten Loading-Unloading

Head of Tanjung Priok Port Authority Wisnu Handoko appreciates this JICT investment, hoping these new QCCs will fasten the process of loading/unloading and encourage the JICT and Tanjung Priok Port, in general, to go digital.

“As a regulator, we appreciate this investment and hope these new QCCs will increase productivity,” he said.

Wisnu expects that these new QCCs will fasten the loading process at JICT from currently 26 moves per hour and the off-loading from 32 moves per hour.

“Further, as these QCCs are the most modern, we hope they will support Tanjung Priok Port to go digital,” he said further.

Other representative customers and associations also send appreciation during their remark speech. Chairwoman of Indonesia National Shipowners’ Association Carmelita Hartoto appreciates this JICT investment. In her remark speech delivered by INSA Jaya Chairman Alimudin, Carmelita underlined that JICT has proven its commitment to increasing productivity.

She hopes this will give benefit not only JICT but also users, including the shipping line. JICT, she said, has proved its commitment with productivity exceeding 2 million TEUs amid the pandemic covid-19 outbreak.

Carmelita hopes JICT to optimize its digitalization program including STID that this terminal has adopted. “These new QCCs are expected to make logistics more efficient. We also hope that JICT is hand in hand with INSA for economic recovery.
