Digitalization in our sector of logistics, transportation, and freight forwarding, though some says ‘running slow’, but no doubt, ‘it is running’. The whole business world is being transformed by new technologies and this one, in particular, is no exception. Digitalization is inevitable, unavoidable.
A lot has changed in this industry. Let us say some, automated port terminals, autonomous ships, freight benchmarking services, proposals of a floating warehouse, even drones being used for cargo deliveries. Not mentioned about all of the soft wares developed to automize and optimize companies’ operations.
Yes, we have seen how companies, including logistics and forwarding companies as we presented in our cover story. Even, not only freight forwarding companies are facing digital transformation, but we also are seeing carriers making efforts to digitize their processes. It’s really important then, that all of the industry players keep up with the technological advances and join the digital era. Those who don’t are at risk of being left out of the market and even vanishing in time. Why?
It is because digitalization will give mutual benefits, both to logistics and forwarding companies and also their customers. It makes business more flexible, faster, safer, and efficient. Digitalization makes customers can work anytime and from anywhere (flexible).
Digitalization, for customers, creates a faster coordination, document process and cargo delivery. Digitalization makes business safer as data uploaded can be verified under a single system, and digitalization for customers makes business more efficient as it will reduce costs.
In addition, for logistics and forwarding business players, digitalization will make them more productive. So, we must all agree, digitalization is inevitable. It must be a way of doing our business.
