EAZI Trial at TPK Berlian Reduces Vessel Changeover Time to 29 Minutes

A one-month trial at TPK Berlian cut vessel changeover to 29 minutes, well below the terminal’s April-June average, as operators seek greater efficiency

PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL), working with the Tanjung Perak Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), completed a one-month trial of the EAZI (Easy Access Zone Integration) zone at TPK Berlian in Surabaya, recording a vessel changeover time of 29 minutes.

The trial began on Aug. 4 and is aimed at improving the use of the EAZI zone while supporting vessel movements and logistics operations at Tanjung Perak Port.

In the first trial, the KM Icon Filipi IV 89 took over the position of the KM Mitra Kendari. The Ship-to-Ship (STS) changeover took place from 19:38 to 20:07 local time, with 29 minutes recorded between the release of the last line by KM Mitra Kendari and the securing of the first line by KM Icon Filipi IV 89.

The result was significantly below the terminal’s average vessel changeover time of 209 minutes, or 3.48 hours, recorded during the April-June 2026 period. Average changeover times were 3.88 hours in April, 3.10 hours in May and 3.45 hours in June.

“This 29-minute achievement demonstrates that optimizing the EAZI zone and coordinating between parties can have a tangible impact on the efficiency of vessel service times,” said Burhanudin, Terminal Head of TPK Berlian.

Burhanudin said the trial could provide greater flexibility in vessel services and improve terminal utilization.

“Moving forward, this service model is expected to be further developed through enhanced synergy and coordination, thereby reducing vessel waiting times and optimizing vessel services,” he said.

The TPK Berlian trial forms part of a broader plan to optimize the EAZI zone. Similar implementations are planned for vessel turnaround services on the Brantas-Hijau Sejuk and Ayer Mas-Intan Data routes.

TTL said further optimization could help increase terminal utilization, accelerate vessel movements and support the flow of goods through the Tanjung Perak area.

Coordination between the terminal operator, KSOP and other stakeholders will remain central to the implementation, the company said.
