We come to the end of this year (2021). So, many stories have colored the year in our shipping and logistics industry. Many stories are unexpected!
As we highlighted in our cover story, this year’s shipping industry created records in demand, capacity supply, high freight rates, carriers’ revenue and profits, and record in the low idle fleet. It was suitable for this industry. However, at the same time, the industry also created some negative records in delays, low reliability, and transit
times. Such an anomaly within the situation in which some industries faced a drop amid the pandemic Covid-19 outbreak.
Global shipping lines created the highest revenue in their history, thanks to the highest freight rate in the history of this industry. Though they had to spend high cash for operating costs due to exponential increase in operational cost, bunker cost, and charter rate, the final results were clear. The net profit was so fantastic! The highest in their history.
Just have a look at this! The combined earnings for the liner industry in Q3 reached $48 billion and a nine-month (January-September 2021) cumulative net result of $105 billion. This nine-month result even exceeds the total profit made by the companies over the past five years. Very fantastic!
And the story has not ended yet. There will be three more months (October-December) coming to their pocket, which is predictably much bigger than the three months earlier. Referring to the financial statements of the shipping industry in Q1-Q3 2021, no doubt the Q4 will create higher. To be noted that the revenue and net profit always grew up from quarter to quarter during this year.
“This year created a record in our history. Though the year has not ended yet, Samudera Indonesia has created the highest revenue in its history,” commends Bani Maulana Mulia, President Director of Samudera Indonesia.
