JICT Highlights Worker Health in Port Operations

Jakarta International Container Terminal says protecting workers’ health and safety is essential to maintaining logistics reliability, operational continuity and sustainable port services

PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) has highlighted the importance of worker health and safety in maintaining national logistics operations, saying port productivity must go hand in hand with workforce protection.

The company emphasized the issue through its participation in a joint exercise and port cleanup event organized with the Tanjung Priok Healthy Port Forum to mark Indonesia’s 62nd National Health Day.

JICT President Director Ade Hartono said the reliability of port operations depended not only on cargo-handling efficiency and equipment but also on the well-being of workers.

“A port cannot be judged merely by how quickly containers move, but also by how well we protect the people who keep them moving,” Ade said during the event at JICT’s parking facility in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Friday.

He said worker health and safety were essential to ensuring the continuity of national logistics services.

Ade added that this year’s National Health Day theme, “Health for All,” underscored the need for cooperation among terminal operators, port authorities and health agencies to maintain healthy port environments.

The activities also aimed to raise awareness of physical fitness, early detection of health problems and workplace cleanliness, he said.

Anak Agung Ngurah Kusumajaya, head of the Tanjung Priok Center for Health Quarantine (BBKK), said the high volume of passenger and cargo movements made ports important areas for public health protection.

“A healthy port is a vital component of public health protection. Efforts to maintain a healthy port environment must go beyond mere ceremonial activities,” Agung said.

Meanwhile, Jon Kennedy, head of the Tanjung Priok Main Port Authority and Harbormaster Office (KSOP), called for stronger coordination among institutions and stakeholders to support port development.

Jon, who recently assumed the position, said cooperation and continued engagement among stakeholders were important to sustaining existing initiatives and improving port governance.

Through the Tanjung Priok Healthy Port Forum, JICT aims to keep worker health protection and environmental management central to efforts to improve port services.
