Fire at New Priok Container Terminal Extinguished, No Casualties Reported

A fire involving containers carrying dangerous goods at New Priok Container Terminal One (NPCT1) in North Jakarta was extinguished on Monday, with no casualties reported, the terminal operator said.

NPCT1 Corporate Planning Manager Christine Margaretha Manasseh said the company responded immediately after the fire was detected, following its safety, security and emergency-response procedures.

The terminal deployed fire trucks to help extinguish the blaze and secure the affected area, she said.

Teams remained at the site to monitor the situation, with priority given to personnel safety, facility security and preventing any further impact, Christine said.

The Tanjung Priok Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP) has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Wim Hutajulu, head of the Sea Transport Traffic Division at KSOP Tanjung Priok, said officers were sent to the site after receiving reports of the incident.

“The cause of the fire cannot yet be confirmed, as an investigation by KSOP officers on the ground is still underway,” Wim said.

NPCT1 is also conducting an internal investigation to establish the chronology and circumstances of the incident and determine its cause, Christine said.

She said the company would verify information and facts before releasing further details.

“NPCT1 is committed to prioritizing safety, security and operational excellence in all terminal operations,” Christine said.
