Chinese ports have marked a significant achievement with remarkable growth in cargo volume and container throughput from January to September 2023. The latest data indicates that Chinese ports handled a staggering 12.540 billion tons of cargo, reflecting an impressive year-on-year increase of 8.5%. Concurrently, container throughput reached 230.7 million TEUs, showing a commendable year-on-year growth of 5.2%.

  • Port of Shanghai Leads the Way: Shanghai maintained its dominance as the busiest container port in China, handling an impressive 36.19 million TEUs, reinforcing its strategic importance in international trade.
  • Ningbo & Zhoushan, Second in Line: The port of Ningbo & Zhoushan emerged as the second busiest container port in China, handling a remarkable 27.26 million TEUs during the nine-month period, emphasizing its growth and strategic significance.
  • Shenzhen, A Strong Third Place: In third place, the port of Shenzhen demonstrated its significance by handling 21.72 million TEUs, maintaining its pivotal role in the nation’s trade landscape.
  • Yinkou’s Impressive Growth: The port of Yinkou reported the largest year-on-year container percentage increase among major ports, with a remarkable growth of 19.6%, showcasing its strategic importance and increasing demand for its services.
