Ambitious Plans: Đồng Nai’s Vision for Logistics Centers and Becoming a Key Vietnam Southern Gateway

In the draft planning for Đồng Nai Province for the period spanning from 2021 to 2030, with a forward-looking perspective extending to 2050, a consulting unit has put forth a proposal to establish four substantial logistics centers. These proposed centers are expected to play a pivotal role in transforming the region’s logistics landscape and solidifying its position as a vital transportation hub in Southern Vietnam.

The four planned logistics centers are as follows:

  1. Eastern Warehouse Centre in Trảng Bom: Encompassing an extensive area of 620 hectares, this facility is envisioned to serve as a central logistics hub for the province.
  2. Phước An Port Logistics Centre: Covering a substantial 234 hectares, this center is poised to specialize in port logistics, streamlining the movement of goods within the region.
  3. North Center of Long Thành Airport: Spanning 100 hectares, this center strategically situates itself near Long Thành Airport, with the aim of facilitating efficient cargo handling.
  4. Southern Center of the Airport (from a logistics perspective): This center will operate in close collaboration with the southern side of the airport, further enhancing the region’s logistics network.

All of these logistics centers are strategically located in close proximity to major transportation hubs, including Long Thành Airport, Phước An Port, and Trảng Bom Railway Station. This strategic placement is designed to improve the convenience and cost-effectiveness of transporting goods.

Đồng Nai Province has set ambitious goals to position itself as the premier transportation gateway for Southern Vietnam by 2023. Notably, the logistics industry is expected to outpace all other service sectors in terms of growth.

By 2023, the draft plan outlines a remarkable growth rate for Đồng Nai’s logistics services, with an anticipated annual increase of 30 to 35 percent. This robust growth is expected to make a substantial contribution, accounting for 20 to 25 percent, to the province’s GDP within the service sector.

The new logistics centers are slated to handle a significant portion, approximately 60 to 70 percent, of the province’s total volume of goods. The remaining 30 to 40 percent will continue to be managed by traditional logistics service centers and areas.

Interestingly, despite the presence of efficient river systems and local port infrastructure, numerous firms in Đồng Nai Province still prefer to use Cát Lái Port in Ho Chi Minh City for their import-export operations. Consequently, Đồng Nai’s primary objective is to attract import-export firms within the region, encouraging them to take advantage of the improved logistics services and infrastructure the province is planning to offer.
