PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) – a container terminal in Tanjung Perak Port Surabaya that focuses on oceangoing containerized cargo – handled 128,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in August, exceeding its monthly target of 124,000 TEUs, the company said.
Exports accounted for 51% of container traffic, or about 65,000 TEUs, compared with 49%, or about 63,000 TEUs, for imports, TPS said.
The figures indicate continued export activity amid shifts in global trade, the company said.
TPS recorded average handling productivity of 52 boxes per ship per hour in August, above the minimum standard of 48 set by Indonesia’s Transportation Ministry through the Tanjung Perak Port Authority (KSOP).
The company said it held an 83% share of international container traffic at Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya.
TPS has added four electric quay container cranes (E-QCCs) and 14 electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes (E-RTGs) as part of efforts to expand capacity and improve service quality.
The electric equipment is expected to improve operational efficiency and reliability while reducing the environmental impact of cargo-handling operations, the company said.
TPS Corporate Secretary Erika A. Palupi said the August performance reflected customers’ continued confidence in the company’s services.
“Achieving throughput of 128,000 TEUs in August 2026, above the company’s target, is a positive indicator of TPS’ operational performance,” Palupi said.
“The surplus in export container flows compared with imports also shows that international trade activity, particularly exports, continues to grow and contributes positively to the national economy,” she said.
TPS will continue to focus on service reliability and operational productivity to support the country’s logistics supply chain, Palupi said.
